Photos of New Orleans Celebrations

The face of long-suffering New Orleans
Saints fans - sportscaster Buddy Diliberto -
offered a long standing promise that, if
the "A'ints" ever made it to the Super Bowl,
he would wear a dress and parade through
the streets of the city.

Sadly, Buddy did not live to see it happen,
but, on January 31, 2010, thousands of
New Orleans most bona fide males took up
the promise and, led by Buddy's successor,
former quarterback Bobby Hebert, paraded
from the Super Dome to the French Quarter
dressed in every feminine attire from straw
skirts to the most elegant of gowns.
With Mardi Gras following so closely on the
heels of the Super Bowl Championship, the
nonstop weeks of partying rose to a level
unmatched even by New Orleans standards.

Following Mardi Gras, Lent will tamp down the

celebrations until finally on Easter Sunday
a quiet parade of horse-drawn carriages
carrying ladies dressed in their finest gowns
and bonnets hand out trinkets to mostly
surprised bystanders.

The procession ends at St. Louis Cathedral with
a Mass overflowing with a mixture of tourists
and locals.
